A Refreshing Weekend at SCHEA Conference 2012

Another amazing weekend spent with homeschoolers in North and South Carolina!  It was conference weekend once again and we set off as a family for two days of meeting new people, seeing our friends from last year’s conference, and learning about techniques that differ from from what we’ve been doing to help enhance our approach as we prepare for a new school year.  The presenters were energetic, engaging, and extremely encouraging.  The kids were involved in their own activities with the many other youth that attended!   There was a water slide and lots of other outdoor games.  Jonathan even shared a few of his card, coin, and ring illusions with counselors, presenters, vendors, and other kids!

Topics that were of interest to us in the workshops were teaching our children entrepreneurial skills at an early age, growing our son into a man and leader of tomorrow, teaching through narration, understanding the family dynamics of differing personalities, teaching the bible as they sit and stand, having fun with unit studies, and reviewing the importance of touch, tone, & time in raising and teaching our children.  We also picked up some great resources and were able to talk with the presenters more in depth while perusing the vendor hall.  What a fantastic group of folks!!

On the first night we met our friends from last year’s conference for supper.  This couple writes and publishes Once-a-Week Unit Studies covering several science and history topics.  Sharon at HomeSchoolLegacy.com will be a guest blogger on occasion to help encourage you in your homeschooling journey and introduce you to her four to seven week studies.  Stay tuned!
